Anna Blumfield and her family raise Certified Animal Welfare Approved by A Greener World (AGW), Certified Grassfed by AGW, Certified Non-GMO by AGW cattle at Deersbrook Farm in Braintree, Essex.

Deersbrook Farm is a third-generation family farm proudly producing British beef. “We use traditional farming methods, says Anna. “Our cattle graze out on the meadows all year round, which equates to very happy cows!”

The herd of around 40 cows and heifers at Deersbrook Farm are predominately native Sussex breed and ideally suited to the farm environment, thriving on a 100% grass and forage diet. All the hay, straw and silage used for winter feed and bedding is also home-produced on the farm.

“Our cattle are reared on species-rich grassland to provide truly great tasting, nutritious beef,” explains Anna. “You’ll find our beef to be a deep, plumy red with creamy coloured fat, showing that our cattle have enjoyed the most nutritious grazing and forage. We allow the beef to dry age, maturing naturally on the bone for 28 days, to develop the flavour and texture of the meat. Then our local traditional butcher prepares the vast range of cuts that we offer our customers.”

The cattle at Deersbrook Farm are also Certified Grassfed by AGW and Certified Non-GMO by AGW. These certifications are optional, additional accreditations for farmers meeting Certified Animal Welfare Approved by AGW standards of production and offer ISO-accredited assurance of high-welfare, 100 percent grassfed feeding protocol and non-GMO farming practices, respectively.

“Meeting the requirements of the Certified Animal Welfare Approved by AGW, Certified Grassfed by AGW and Certified Non-GMO by AGW programmes was an important goal for us,” says Anna. “We are dedicated to producing the best naturally delicious meat with the highest welfare standards that benefits the livestock, environment and us the consumer.”
