Danefold Farms – Horsham, West Sussex

Danefold is a family-run livestock farm situated in the beautiful Low Weald of Sussex, raising Certified Animal Welfare Approved by A Greener World (AGW) pedigree Aberdeen Angus, Beef Shorthorn and White Park cattle, selling high-quality beef to the public via their farm shop (opening early 2024) and at farmers’ markets, as well as to local butchers.

The beef cattle at Danefold Farms are also Certified Grassfed by AGW, an optional, additional accreditation for farmers meeting Certified Animal Welfare Approved by AGW standards of production, which offers assurance of high-welfare and a 100 percent grassfed feeding protocol.

The Martin family are fourth generation farmers who, over the decades, have farmed right across Sussex. The Martins are committed to a sustainable method of beef farming, which respects the animals and their environment. The cattle at Danefold Farms are all slow-matured, traditional native breeds, raised outdoors where they graze species-rich pastures. Rotational management allows grass to recover before cows return to graze again; it also keeps the soil naturally fertilised and minimises the build-up of internal parasites, thereby avoiding reliance on chemical treatments.

The beef is aged on the bone for a minimum of three weeks, then carefully prepared and packaged by a local butcher. Naturally marbled, well-flavoured and rich in omega 3 fatty oils, the beef is exceptionally tasty, flavoursome and succulent.

Danefold Farms also host a number of Country Markets over the summer months, with over 60 stalls featuring local produce, live bands, dog shows, burger stall, arts and crafts, classic car shows and so much more.

Certified Animal Welfare Approved by AGW, Certified Grassfed by AGW beef from Danefold Farms is available from the on-site farm shop (opening early 2024), as well as at Steyning farmers’ market and Shoreham farmers’ market.
