Johnny Alvis raises Certified Animal Welfare Approved by A Greener World (AGW) dairy cows at Regilbury Park Farm near Winford, Bristol.

The Alvis family has produced handmade cheeses since 1952 at Lye Cross Farm, situated in the heart of the West Country in Somerset. The business has been a pioneer in sustainable cheese production for over 65 years and is the first to produce Certified Animal Welfare Approved by A Greener World (AGW) and Certified Grassfed by AGW cheese in the UK. While the Alvis family’s award-winning company is established in the UK market and exports to more than 40 countries, they are excited about exploring new opportunities and emerging markets with their Certified Animal Welfare Approved by AGW, Certified Grassfed by AGW cheese.

The dairy cows at Regilbury Park Farm are rotationally managed, grazing one section of pasture before being moved to fresh fields. This type of management allows grass to recover before cows return to graze again; it also keeps the soil properly fertilised and minimises the build-up of internal parasites, thereby avoiding reliance on chemical treatments. The milk for the cows is supplied to the Lye Cross Farm dairy to produce their award-winning cheese.
